Book Referrals : Make a Match by Daphine Ferrer

Want a perfect match? Then give AECES Book Referrals a shot.

Headed by Raiza Ante, the AECES Book Referrals acts as a matchmaking system. A match ─ between a lender and a borrower of a book, that is, will be formed (but who knows what other kind of match might be made? J).

This will be done by posting the lenders’ names, available books, and contact numbers in the AECES yahoogroups and bulletin board for the borrowers to choose from whom to ask for the textbooks that they need. It will be up to the borrowers to get in touch with prospective lenders. Once the lender agrees to let his/her book be borrowed, a slip will be filled up and be given to the Academics Department to keep track of who’s borrowing what from whom.

Since most freshmen and sophomores who want to borrow books do not know most of the upperclassmen yet, this project comes along just right for them. Meanwhile, the lenders get something good out of it too for they get to be men and women for others in the fulfillment of lending a hand, or in this case, a book, to someone in need.

So are you short on cash or saving some bucks for a special something or a special someone? Are you sneezing from the dust accumulating on your pile of currently unused textbooks from past subjects?

Join Book Referrals and make a perfect match

The site truly has a lot to offer and is even made fun and interactive for everyone to keep visiting every now and then.

Take a CHANCE by Daphine Ferrer

Here comes the AECES raffle—a thrilling game of chance that will leave your pockets still up and alive, and this time around with a twist of cura personalis. Why? It’s because once you purchase a ticket at only a very affordable price of P5, you’ll not only be helping in boosting AECES’ finances, but you’ll also be reaching out a true blue Atenean hand to the needy because funds for some of AECES’ outreach activities such as Aghamunti will then be elevated.

And oh no, we’re not forgetting a raffle’s highlight.  For what is an AECES raffle without the coolest prizes guaranteed to set your techie buzz on?  Get the chance to bag a digital camera (first prize), a 1 G flash disk (second prize) and an MP3 player (third prize).  Consolation prizes include gift certificates in National Book Store and Starbucks. So buy more tickets to increase your chances of winning or you could turn up your charm and persuasiveness to the highest level in helping sell tickets.  The person who sells the most tickets has a special reward in store for him/her.

So take those wallets rolling out and get those tickets rolling in!

AECES TUTORIALS : Geared up for excellence by Anacat Ramirez

The AECES Tutorials is back—bigger and better—repackaged just for you!  AECES Tutorials Head Cathy Favorito (V – BS ECE) has one goal set in her mind: to extend the reach of the Tutorials. “I want to improve the AECES Tutorials’ image. I hope that the students won’t get scared of asking help especially when they need it,” says the cool-headed boss. “I want them to see that they can easily approach the tutors by delivering the service directly to students this year.” Division heads, ultimately the core members who are tasked to coordinate with each year level, will consequently play a vital role in developing this kind of more personalized system.

In addition, the core group is planning to seek help from tutors coming from other orgs that specialize in Math, Chem, and Physics as this year’s AECES Tutorials aspires for a more dynamic and wider approach targeted to the freshmen, sophomores, and juniors alike. The core group also intends to prioritize students who immediately need help by consulting with the ECCE Faculty.

What happens is that profiles of these tutors are posted on the ECE Board so that interested “customers” will be able to contact them and schedule a convenient time and place for both of them for the tutorial session, as practiced last semester.

The Free Tutorials offered are motivated through incentives that will be given to tutors at the end of the year, aside from the fulfillment of having helped (and saved) a student in distress (o diba, men and women for others? J). Catered subjects are Electronics (ELC 101-107), Physics (Ps14, EngPs141-143), Math (Ma18-22, EngMa101-102) and CE 21.

“Not only will they be able to help others, they will also get to help the org itself for re-accreditation,” chimes Cathy. “That’s already in addition to meeting new people! And for the tutees, a second home where you have the tutorials core group fussing over you and ates or kuyas in your tutors, free unbiased advice (regarding what subjects to take next sem, which teachers to take or avoid, places with good food, etc), an excuse to be in the tambayan and exclusive airconditioned labs of Faura to vent your frustrations in life--the higher exam grades and extra knowledge come as a bonus.”

Hopefully, with an active participation of the AECES community, the Tutorials will succeed in its goal to alleviate the difficult demands of the ECE curriculum.
