President's Message - Luigi Onglao

This year presents a number of firsts for the Ateneo Electronics Engineering Society. On top of the list would be the recent accreditation of our organization as an official student organization in the Ateneo De Manila University. More than the benefits attached to being an accredited organization, we must all strive to live up to the responsibilities befitting an accredited student organization. I highly encourage each and every AECES member to continuously strive to actualize and live out our Vision, Mission, and Objectives. The VMO is more than just a group of abstract words. It is our identity. The VMO is our roadmap to where we will go and how we will go about our journey.

AECES will be nothing without the support of its members. I challenge each AECES member to not just participate in AECES activities but moreover to take an active stake in the organization. Be a project head. Join a core group. You may even suggest and start an AECES project. Indeed, AECES this year has numerous projects that cater to diverse range of interests.

Let us show to the Ateneo community and outside as well what AECES is really all about.

External Affairs Department - Faye Aninipot , Jose Rafael Dimaano

The External Affairs Department links AECES to other organizations, companies, or people which are related and could be of help to its members. It provides a variety of opportunities such as tours to ECE-related companies, trips to other universities (UP and La Salle), Alumni get-togethers and a lot more! It aims to serve the interest of the students as well as to provide growth and awareness to them, through the connections established with the different organization.

This year, the department has four major projects: Campus Exchange, Company Tours, Alumni Database and Company Portfolio. In behalf of all the people in the External Affairs, I would like to invite you to join the department and participate in all of its projects. We would definitely have a lot of fun!

Human Resources Department - Clare Dy , Daryl Gaerlan

Superseniors: Thanks for your guidance to us and dedication to the org. We owe you a lot and we promise we’ll make you proud of us. PS. Don’t forget us after you graduate, and good luck in your career!

Seniors, 2 words: Step up! We’ve already survived hell, let’s not give up now. Two years to go! But before we go, let’s leave a legacy of nurturing to the entire AECES family.

Dear juniors, now that you’re approaching the climax of academics, it is important to stay focused. Have faith, kaya n’yo yan. We see a lot of potential leaders; it is up to you whether you will utilize those capabilities. We wish you the best in your college life.

Sophies, we know that you are still young and you have yet to experience the rigors of college life, but we need more involvement. Soon you will assume more org responsibilities, and of course you need training. The best time to start is now.

Freshies! First and foremost, welcome to the Ateneo! Always be assured that your kuyas and ates will always be there to support you in anyway possible. Don’t be shy, dapat makapal ang mukha! We will truly appreciate your cooperation with the org.

Always remember that AECES is a family. Don’t hesitate to mingle with each other, close friends or not, batchmates or not, coursemates or not. We are excited; we hope you feel the same way too. Let’s not wait for the year to bring us something, let’s make something happen now!

Academics Department - Raiza Pamela Ante , Arlan-Z Escalante

One of the best decisions I’ve made in my life so far was shifting to ECE on impulse. Despite the sleepless nights, mediocre grades and the impossible lessons, I survived. And I’ve never been happier.

I hope most of you would get to experience the same ECE experience I’ve had by not shifting out nor getting kicked out. I know—it’s not that easy, but if you would just put a little effort, then you’ll be marching in March on time. But if every little group study you’ve joined fails to give you the D, or B+ you were aiming for, you can always count on AECES, specifically, what the Academics department has to offer:

AECES Tutorials
As its name implies, it provides tutorial sessions for those who are on the verge of flunking their majors or simply those who aim for a higher grade.

BOOK Referrals
It’s sort of an improvised book-lending service where the numbers of willing lenders are advertised for everyone, especially those who don’t know anyone they can borrow books from. For the shy ones, they can always approach me to mediate in the transactions.

ECE SURVIVAL CD
By the time you’re reading this, you’d probably already have a copy of this CD containing 7 useful programs for your major subjects such as CE 21, ELC 106 and so much more.

SAMPLE TEST DRIVE
The sample test drive is an ongoing compilation of previous long exams, solution sets, etc—valuable resource materials that can be used/borrowed for studying.

Words of Advice (for the freshies and sophies):
I bet most of you graduated with honors in High school. In college, these past achievements do not mean a thing, though. All of us start off with a clean slate, and it’s ultimately up to us if we are going to make something out of ourselves. There’s nothing worse than wasting that well-endowed IQ of yours into excessive DOTA-playing (bato-bato sa langit…) or procrastination. Study hard, but not too hard (you know what I mean). Listen to the professor or at least pretend to. Borrow books from the AECES book referrals because within old books are scribbled little notes or highlighted lines that you can use to your advantage. And most importantly, strive to be active in your home org, AECES. If it’s not for self-fulfillment, just think of how it will look good on your resume.

Secretariat and Documentations Department - Stephanie Tan , Lester Vinzons

It is with great joy and pride that we welcome you all once again to another year of fun, learning, and camaraderie here in AECES! As AECES ushers in this year as an accredited org, we in the Secretariat and Documentations Department are looking forward to a fun-filled and fruitful journey with you this school year.

For the new members (and also, for the old members who aren’t familiar with our department), here’s a bit of information: The Sec and Doc Department is the branch of the Executive Board in charge of all the documentations of AECES. Information about past projects, Executive Board (EB) meetings, and member profiles are only some of what we meticulously organize and compile for your future reference. Therefore, if any of you are in need of information regarding past projects, or if any of you have questions on how to document projects, we are the department to approach! In view of our vision of keeping a well-informed studentry, the Sec and Doc Department also oversees the AECES newsletter (The Pulse), which in this school year will have an online version that you can easily access through the Internet.

In addition to The Pulse, the department is also heading two other projects, namely: ECE Portable Directory and AECES History. The former aims to provide ECE students with the core profile of all ECE students and the EB, while the latter is a comprehensive narrative that seeks to provide the students an in-depth look on what transpired in the org from its conception until its recent accreditation.

Once again, welcome to AECES! We hope that this year will be an enriching experience for all of us. Let us work together toward the realization of the vision of AECES!

Finance and Marketing Department - Jerome Limkin , Luis Antonio Aguja

Welcome to AECES! We, in the Finance and Marketing Department, are primarily concerned with the allocation and the management of the AECES funds to ensure that every project may be executed without financial difficulties. In order to generate additional funds for AECES, we commence different fund-raising projects throughout the school year. We also try to find sponsors who are willing to help AECES financially.

This year, watch out for the Finance and Marketing Department’s most celebrated project: the AECES Awards and Awards Night. Now, in its second year, AECES Awards aims to recognize distinguished individuals among the ECCE community and faculty. During the Awards Night, the receivers of the AECES Awards are awarded with their respective AECES Awards trophy. Also, the receivers of the EB Awards receive their proper acknowledgment. In addition, the induction of the newly elected officers occurs at this event. Finally, food and drinks is served after the event.
